Born in Madras (Chennai), Tamil Nadu in 1942. From 1959-64 he studied at Govt. College of Arts and Crafts, Madras and later trained in Fresco techniques, at Bhanasthali Vidyapith College, Rajasthan in 1964. He studied intaglio, lithography and ceramics, at Ein-Hod Israel, in 1968 and received his post graduation in print making, from Portsmouth Polytechnic, England in 1977.

Throughout his career, Bhaskaran has held over 40 solo shows and has participated in several group shows in India and abroad. He has received numerous scholarships & awards including the scholarship from International Association of Plastic Arts, UNESCO in 1968, scholarship from British Council, New Delhi 1976-1977, Fellowships by the Dept. of Culture, Ministry of Education, New Delhi in 1979, 81, 84, 86 and the National Award, Lalit Kala Academy, New Delhi in 1982. He has held positions of Honorary Secretary, Lalit Kala Academy, Madras in 1987 and Chairman, Lalit Kala Academy, New Delhi in 2002. His works are in collections and museums in India and abroad.

The artist lives and works in Chennai.
