Jatin Das

Born in Orissa in 1941. Jatin Das graduated from Sir J J School of Art, Mumbai in 1962 and has held 45 one man shows including shows at major art centers of London, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Birmingham and Helsinki. He has participated in all major shows and represented India at the Paris Biennale in 1971, Venice Biennale in 1978, Tokyo Biennale in 1984, Havana Cuba Biennale in 1986. His works have been auctioned at Sotheby's, Asprey UK and others. He is the recipient of several awards, which include the Governor's Award, Bombay in 1965, the Bharat Bhavan Award in 1992. His paintings are in major collections in Museums in India and abroad.

For Jatin the erotic woman is a constant source of inspiration. His sharp lines are full of movement and are complemented by the expanse of large flat colour fields. He says "The human predicament is my basic concern. I draw, paint and etch the human body without any narrative, devoid of placement of time".
