Suhas Roy

He was born in Tejgan, Dhaka, Bangladesh. He studied at the Indian College of Arts & Draftsmanship in Kolkata. He later went for higher studies in Graphic Art under S.W. Hayter, Atelier 17, Paris and at the L'Ecole Superior des Beaux Arts, Paris in 1965-66. He was the Principal of the Indian College of Arts & Draftmanship, Kolkata and also worked as a Professor in painting at Kala Bhavan, Vishva Bharti, Shantiniketan.

He has participated in several important International exhibitions including the 7th International Biennale of prints in Tokyo, the Exposition des Arts des Govt. Francaise in Paris and several other exhibitions in Yugoslavia, Romania, Czechoslovakia and Hungary. His works are in several prestigious Museums in India and his 'Christ' has pride of place at the Embassy of the Vatican.

"The sole purpose of art is absolute peace" says Suhas who reinvents images from miniatures. His Radha is contemporised. She is a woman who combines the essence of the Ajanta Apsara, the Renaissance Mona Lisa, the Kishangarh Nayika and the icon, Madonna.

Suhas lives and works in Kolkata.
