Anwar’s abstracts have a gentle austerity and graphic quality. Taught by the great J. Swaminathan, Anwar achieves this through thin, finely graded washes of paint and faint textures. The feel of vast expanses of space and the music of the sufis is created with transparency that shows his attunement. There is a meditative quality born out of refininment of lines and spaces of the pictorial surface. Somewhat monochromatic, Anwar lets the nuances of his pigment speak for themselves.
