Description

Born in 1945 at Sarjapur, near Bangalore. Krishnappa studied art at Kala Mandir, Bangalore and Nuthan Kala Mandir, Mumbai, under the guidance of A.N. Subha Rao, H.N. Haldankar, A.A. Almelkar and S.N. Joshi of Bombay and got Diploma of Fine Arts. He served as Art designer at Weaver’s Service Centre till 2001.

He has held 7 Solo shows, has participated in several group exhibitions and received several awards including the Karnataka Lalit Kala Academy Award ’81 and ’83. His 19 Awards include 6 from the Andhra Academy of Arts 1975, 1976, 1977, 1978, 1986 and 1987.

Krishnappa portrays men in festive rural attire, playing music and dancing to traditional rhythms. His figures have successfully captured these rhythmic movements. His figures accentuate the artistic abilities of the performers. The paintings are brightly coloured and on a textured backdrop. He lives and works in Bangalore.
