VIJAY ACHREKAR

Born in 1967 in Mumbai. He studied Art at the L.S. Raheja School of Art, Mumbai, where he got a First Class First Diploma (Drawing and Painting). He is renowned for his Portraiture. Vijay has participated in several exhibitions and won several awards notably The Art Society of India Award – ’90, ’91, ’94, ’95, The Maharashtra Government Award for Portraiture 1987, and the Bombay Art Society Award for Portraiture 1996.His abstract paintings are characterized by large swathes of colour and quick gestural strokes. Though the colour application can be characterized as flat, the finished painting has a 3 dimensional quality that makes Achrekar stand out as an outstanding artist. He lives and works in Mumbai.
